The ornaments can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, both small and big, caricature or traditional, complicated or very simple. You have the option to create them yourself or to buy one of the thousands of models that can be found in pet stores.

You can’t use ornaments in every tank though, as some fish don’t enjoy their presence. For example, Oscar fish prefer their tank to be ornament and plant free. In other cases, they are needed by fish to hide behind or under them. Traditionally, most ornaments will look like ships or castles and they can be used by small fish to hide from bigger ones. Another advantage is that fish can play inside them.

You can buy ornaments for aquariums from most fish or pet stores. You can find both cheap and expensive ornaments in these shops. You can find ornaments that are quite detailed and made to look like they’re branches that have weeds attached. In some cases, fish will need their aquarium to look like their home in the wild, and proper ornaments can be important in their case.

Having amphibians inside the aquarium means that an ornament that looks like a waterfall and has a small bathing pool on the bottom might be nice to have, as they will bath in it. Make sure the aquarium has plenty of greenery inside if you have amphibians in it, so it looks like it’s their home.

It’s not hard finding the right ornaments for your tank and they’re easy to put inside. If you can, make sure that the ornaments fit with the natural habitat of the fish you have inside. If you have a goldfish it doesn’t matter, but for other types of fish it does. In the aquarium of a goldfish you can use all types of ornaments, no matter how funny.

Goldfish Keeping your Goldfish HealthyGoldfish are a very popular pet, yet surprising very few people know that their little friend can actually live for over 10 years! To be able to achieve this they need to be provided with the right conditions and proper environment.

Many goldfish owners mistakenly believe that their fish only needs a little bowl to live in. Due to this common presumption, many goldfish will not live as long as they should. If a goldfish is confined in a small bowl and not provided with a quality water filter they need daily water changes. Unfortunately few owners are able to maintain this and the goldfish health becomes threatened.

Goldfish need at least 7 gallons of water each to stay happy and healthy. Be sure to tank into account that the tank will be big enough for the amount of goldfish that you want to keep.

When choosing a tank for your goldfish, try to pick a long one that allows plenty of surface area. Goldfish need high levels of oxygen in their water, so a tall tank with little surface area is not a good choice.

Also aim to keep the water temperature between 65 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Special aquarium thermometers are very cheap to buy and will allow you to easily monitor the temperature. Maintaining the right water temperature will greatly help your goldfish to stay disease free.

You will need a good filtration system for the tank. You need to factor into account the size of the aquarium and one that will be easy to clean and maintain. If you are keeping fancy tailed goldfish in the tank don’t choose a filter with a too strong current, as this type of fish will struggle to swim in fast moving water.

The main reasons that a goldfish does not reach its live expectancy are overcrowding, overfeeding, and bad water quality. To give your goldfish the best chance at a long,  healthy life provide a good filter, complete regular water changes and don’t allow uneaten food and other waste to build up in the tank. Waste in the aquarium will cause the water to become toxic which often proves deadly for goldfish.

If you follow these few simple guidelines, your goldfish should provide you with a a happy and rewarding hobby for many years to come. These steps require little work and maintenance, yet they will have a very positive outcome for you and your goldfish.
